Love your accent
Don't get hung up about your accent.
Whenever people talk about learning and especially speaking a foreign language, there is a lot of discussion about accents. More often than not, 'I have an accent, I'm a bit embarrassed about it.'
Well, don't be embarrassed. I'm from Yorkshire in England and while I speak French daily, I have an accent. It is, however, a great feeling when I speak fluently, and the words come out with and ease, and I make the right sounds so that I am understood.
It takes many years of living and speaking a language daily in order to 'eradicate' a foreign accent. But perhaps instead we can make a few sounds better. For years I was saying raisin in French incorrectly. I was annoyed that no one told me. They probably didn't want to offend. But I prefer it if people do correct the bigger mistakes.
I have a particular interest in helping foreign speakers to overcome some of English's 'little sound problems'.
